How would I compare male dominance in both the great gatsby and the colour purple?

I've got a theme of male dominance in both books The Great Gatsby and the Color purple, and I'm having a hard time thinking of a thesis comparing the two. I've got a little bit so far, how male dominance is influenced by the time the books were set in and how the women in both books are vulnerable and insecure.
