You really just have to go through the book and look at all the characters one by one...which ones are nice and unselfish but are made to suffer or die? Are there any ideals/morals in the book that are like mockingbirds? Think about what Jem went through and see if you can make a connection. This is your homework, so you have to come up with the answers, but what you need to do is take the book and the essay and work on one piece at a time. Reading the whole question at once can be too confusing. Organize your answer on a scratch piece of paper. If the book doesn't make a lot of sense in places, try renting and watching the movie...the one with Gregory Peck in it...and that can help you find examples to look for in the book to support your work.
