I have a question about a German mauser?

I saw a "Mauser Sporter" at Cabelas for $300 with a scope. It looked like a beautiful bolt action rifle and the body looked new. The barrel though had the Mauser mark on it, on the side I couldn't translate completely but I saw the word "Berlin" at the end. The tag said "Mauser Sporter USED 7.65 caliber SN Argentine." I was going to ask if it was safe to fire and if the barrel was good (I want to be able to fire this rifle) I was just wondering if this particular model would usually work well as a target rifle and if I'm getting a good deal.
