Tips for a killdeer egg/hatchling?

Yesterday I was in athletics and I saw a small egg in a nest without a bird protecting it. I saw that it has black blotches on it, it I umed it was a killdeer egg(I've seen one before with a mother by it). After school I went to go check on the egg and there was a big black bird standing by it, so I chased the bird away and waited, still there was no killdeer in sight. I waited atleast sixty minutes until I picked up the bird with a clean shirt and took it home. The bird is in a cage where it's covered and warm, I've also rotated the egg a couple of times. Please no rude words or comments, I'm just looking for tips.
