Ionic vs covalent bonds?

I don't really get it either, but from what I think I understand, there is a difference. Covalent bonds are formed when atoms share electrons, and can be solids, liquids, or gases at room temperature. Ionic bonds are created when two oppositely charged ions come together. Usually, ionic compounds are brittle solids that dissolve easily in water and have a high melting point.
